A WORLD BECOME ONE, OF SALADS AND SUN- ...

Michael Goldberg, writing for Salon dot com {quoted in The Week}
about the 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' herring.
{All itals mine. I.P.}

"[...]
If recent polls are to be believed the American public are either ignorant of the entire situation or unconcerned at the apparent collpase of the rationale for war.

In one poll, a third of respondents said they believed the WMD had already been found in Iraq. A fifth thought that Iraq had actually used WMDs in the conflict.

Another survey found that almost half of Americans felt the administration was “intentionally misleading” [them] about WMDs but didn’t particularly care because they thought the war was justified anyway.*
[...]
It’s possible that the Bush team will reman unscathed even if incontrovertible evidence of mendacity does emerge. The question then, is whether American democracy can survive a citizenry that either doesn’t know or doesn’t care if its leaders tell the truth.
"

{*Which begs the question: jusitified on WHAT grounds?
Which is a more serious Q than it at first might appear, seeing as another X% of Americans apparently believe Saddam Hussein was directly responsible for 9/11. I.P.}
