Hey, re: the news story below... ("Anti terror police arrest man for singing Clash song...") who wants to join me in a pointless satirical protest a la Derek N Clive or Lenny Bruce ... we can band together as a Live Aid collective (Glib Aid?') and re record the Monty Python 'Spam' song except it can go

"...Jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad jihad etc..."

and then all over the country - on scaffolding and in playgrounds and football terraces let the song resound:

"Jihad jihad jihad jihad ..."

They can't arrest us all. The prisons are nearly full as it is...

... To the tune of "Shadow" by The Lurkers, no?

Oh, if only the 9/11 bombers had sung Motorhead songs in the cab to the airport, everything would have turned out so much nicer.

Although this whole episode is obviously absurd, given Strummer's terrorist chic posturing (Red Brigades, H-Block etc) that cabbie has in fact instinctively pinpointed the apocalyptic fantasies that Strummer played around with. (Lovely bloke though!)

In a weird way, it's a compliment to the Clash that their music still resonates in this way, 25+ years on and their stuff is being taken in the spirit in which it was intended (ludicrously shallow as that might be).

There was a documentary a few years ago on The Secret State on BBC2 full of 70s "radicals" expressing outrage at the discovery that they were being monitored by MI5 as possible threats to the nation. What a bunch of gloopy hypocrites. If they meant it, it should be a badge of honour.
